1912 Silk Afternoon Gown with Contrast Bands

Composite02.jpg

A lovely Titanic-era afternoon gown, the first replica shown was made in an off-white silk shantung and silk satin contrast bands in colours matching the 1912 description. The burgundy wool autumn/winter version is also shown in this album.

This elegant design is one of my personal favourites. Sewing pattern #1912-A-029, available in our Etsy shop, "FashionArchaeologist".

1912 Wool Glencheck Walking Suit

Composite2.jpg

Tailored replica of an early 1912 walking suit, created in a fine wool glencheck in cinnamon tones, with silk collar and skirt contrast, brown silk satin contrast bands, silk satin covered buttons, silk satin lining. This was the kind of suit that would have been worn by a fashionable young woman at the time of the Titanic.

1912 Cape-Jacket Walking Suit

Jkt-Skirt02.JPG

We paired this striking 1912 design for a cape jacket with our 1912 "tulip" skirt, to create a lovely ensemble. The photos here show the walking suit created in 3 different colour combinations. Our pattern #1912-A-006 (available in our eBay store - see URL on "Home" page here).

1912 Silk Garden Party/Promenade Gown

Gallery-CombiPic02.jpg

A very fashionable 1912 garden party or promenade gown with intricately constructed layers of different silks, and a rather surprising striped embellishment on sleeves and bodice. Arrangements in black and white were all the rage during 1912.

Our pattern (#1912-A-027) should be available in late 2016/early 2017.

1912 Old Rose Linen Walking Suit

1912-A-032-Gallery01.jpg

Re-creation of a linen walking suit almost exactly as described in the 1912 French original design, using an old-rose coloured linen for the jacket and overskirt, and off-white linen for the underskirt and contrast collar. White venise lace appliqu├ęs on jacket and skirt. Our pattern #1912-A-032 is planned for release in 2016.

1912 Rosewood Wool Walking Suit

1912-A-032-Combined2.jpg

Taken from the same 1912 design as the old rose and white linen walking suit, we re-created this suit in a rosewood coloured pure wool, with underskirt and contrast collar of silk/wool blend twill, and black venise lace trim. This ensemble was intended for cooler season wear. The black venise lace makes a striking contrast against the warm rosewood colour of the wool.

1912 Perwinkle Blue Wool Walking Suit

1912-Periwinkle-Gallery1.jpg

Another re-creation of the 1912 Walking Suit, this time in a periwinkle-coloured pure wool, with black silk/wool twill underskirt and contrast collar and black venise lace. This particular suit was custom-made for a client in a larger size.

View of Bodice Front17 viewsThis 1906 gown still has the separate bodice and skirt, which was a holdover from designs of the Victorian era. Toward 1907, the idea of both bodice and skirt being attached together as one garment became fashionable, and for the most part by 1910 bodices were no longer constructed as a separate garment.

The wide, stiffened silk satin waist sash hides the junction between bodice and skirt. Notice the lavish use of lace trim on the bodice, as well as the faux crystal baubles and faux pearl buttons.
